It has been found that the best method of performing a sit up exercise is through a very short range of motion. Just as with all exercises, the crunch also has a start and finish position. It is only about 6"s to the contracted position. Most people don't realize this. The Core Trainer was designed to take you through the short, but correct range of motion. The bench is also set at the proper angle that fully relieves any stress on the lower back. The lower back should not be trained directly and will strengthen naturally by developing the abdominal muscles in addition to building the muscles surrounding the lower back with exercises such as such as rows. There is also a comfortable head pad that moves with the lever to provide support to the neck.
